In a bit of a plot twist, we’re starting to suspect that Married At First Sight’s Melissa Rawson and Bryce Ruthven aren’t still together after all.
Despite Bryce relocating from Canberra to Melbourne since filming wrapped, and us photographing him in Melissa’s hometown over there last week, she’s just slipped up and said they ‘ended the show as good friends’ and reckons their storyline is ‘going to get a lot worse’ on TV.
Speaking to Hit Hobart 100.9’s Jimmy & Nath, the hosts just outright asked her if they’re now living together, and either she’s a good actress and had a few misleading responses rehearsed – or they genuinely are no longer an item.
Melissa was also asked about the ‘hypocrisy’ of Bryce being upset about her revelation she was on-and-off with her ex-boyfriend, despite him recently admitting to being on-and-off with his ex-fiancée and sleeping with someone else during their brief splits. Read the juicy quotes below.
Melissa on the ‘hypocrisy’ of Bryce’s reaction to her being on-and-off with her ex-boyfriend:
‘I knew that he was with his ex-fiancée and in their relationship they definitely had breaks in between … I think in the heat of the moment [discussing my past with my ex-boyfriend], he just forgot about his past experiences.’
Melissa’s response to being asked if she believed Bryce was ‘on a break’ from his ex-fiancée when he slept with other woman:
‘Yeah, yeah … I, er, obviously, I’ve experienced some things like that in the past, and I know Bryce is copping a lot of flack, which is what happens when you’re really honest, unfortunately.’
Melissa when asked if we’re going to see a different side to Bryce on the show?
‘I hope so, there was definitely so many different sides to Bryce and the side that we’re seeing on TV is definitely not the best part. It’s condensed into a couple of episodes and he doesn’t look great.’
Melissa on the rumour she’s now living with him:
‘Well, no, we’re doing all of our publicity together and we’re really good friends, we ended on really good terms after the show.’
Melissa when asked where she lives, and also where Bryce now lives after leaving Canberra:
‘[I’m] in Melbourne. I know that Bryce is living in Melbourne too…’
Melissa when asked if she’s seen his new place, after admitting they’re ‘really good friends’?
‘No, I haven’t actually.’
Melissa on this week’s photo ranking challenge, and what she really thought of it:
‘That was one of the worst challenges I think that they’ve ever had on Married At First Sight, and it’s just something you wouldn’t do in real life.’
Melissa’s response when asked what producers told them beforehand about the challenge:
‘They told us to be very honest, and rate from most attractive to least attractive – so that’s what we did. If Bryce had put me at number 1, I’d have known that he was lying, because of what happened during our honeymoon… I knew I was going to be up at the top. It was still hard to top. If he did put me at number 1 I probably would have exploded, which maybe needed to happen.’
Lastly, Melissa’s response when asked if it’s hard seeing Bryce receive such a backlash?
‘Yeah, on the show it was really hard [for us], and we’ve definitely copped a lot of flack and moving forward, you’re going to see it … it’s going to get a lot worse. For someone like me, who’s very introverted and quite shy, it’s hard for me. But I went into the experiment knowing the experts had obviously matched us for a reason, and I was going to give it all that I could, until I couldn’t. So, I definitely did that. It was a lot to cop on the chin for someone as reserved as I am.’
