Booka’s best mate just revealed the apparent real reason her and Brett fell apart on MAFS
Married At First Sight

The final nail has just been hammered into Booka Nile and Brett Helling’s once-perfect romance.

Following Tuesday’s Married At First Sight, where Brett felt he was being mocked after Booka covered their apartment in pictures of his face after she was told to ‘lighten up’ and ‘not be self-absorbed’, Booka’s best friend Madlin Sims has now unleashed on social media.

In a lengthy post, Madlin shed more light on why the couple have fallen apart so quickly, and also revealed some stuff we haven’t seen on TV.

After watching the ep, here’s what Madin vented, and it mostly seems like Booka always felt Brett did not support her, or women in general?

‘“Omg Booka why don’t you just lighten up and have a bit more fun. Stop talking about yourself so much!” Seriously though, although we often reduce the issues that arise in shows such as MAFS to just be a bit of fun and gossip, we are seeing some serious behaviour that needs to be discussed. Guys like Brett carry around this “woke” persona but when it comes time to actually do the work and reflect on their own contributions to the systemic oppression of POC, LGBTQIA people and women, they really aren’t prepared to step up to the plate … they certainly are not prepared to take a seat and listen. I saw my best friend develop a relationship with a man (albeit under very unusual circumstances) who, on countless occasions, made jokes about women (not even anything creative lol he was jokingly saying that women can’t drive among other things).

‘My best friend was met with, “Hey you need to lighten up and stop taking everything so seriously. You’re too dark”. This was after disclosing her own personal (and somewhat traumatic) experiences growing up as a woman in this world. This is after showing him peer reviewed data and research about how jokes made at the expense of particular groups in society uphold the systems of oppression and literally contribute to violence said groups face.

‘The response seen (telling her to lighten up, to take a joke, to stop making it about herself when she literally disclosed her deepest and most significant life experiences as a woman) is sadly a very predictable one. It’s a complete avoidance of any accountability or willingness to hear any voices that don’t resonate with the values that feed their ego and sense of self. Viewers have been very quick to hold the likes of Bryce accountable for his actions (and rightfully so), but it doesn’t matter how much energy we put into holding the Bryce’s accountable when we have the Brett‘s who claim to be allies, upholding these systems with their jokes. It is pretty tiring and becoming very evident that even our “allies” can’t be trusted to actually support us.’

Obviously this is just one side of the story, so we’ve reached out to the Married At First Sight publicist to see if Brett would like to respond or comment.

*Madlin made further claims which we have chosen to exclude as there was no evidence to support them
